Dive deep into the world of the underground Dinarides
Deep below the surface in the underground rivers and lakes of the Dinaric Alps, lives an unusual endemic amphibian from the humpback family - Proteus Anguinus,
localy known as the "human fish".
The olm is the largest underground aquatic animal of the Dinarides karst and the only vertebrate adapted to life in the underworld. Researching the proteus is greatly aggravated by the inaccessibility of their habitat, under ground and under water which is why we know very little about this species even today.
A team of speleologists lead by biologist dr. sc. Dušan Jelić dived into the dark depths of the karst underground, in search of answers about this rare and unusual species.
